Steve Muth and Joanna Sawyer, MD, the co-founders of the ZEM Life Device Company, created a brand-new smartwatch designed to save lives. The ZEM Life Device Company was founded after a tragic loss. In 2021, Steve lost his son, Zachary Ernest Muth, to an accidental fentanyl overdose. Shortly after this devastating loss, Steve met Joanna, an anesthesiologist, on a blind date. The two shared a similar goal of wanting to do good and save lives, and began to discuss the possibilities of a wearable device that could automatically inject life-saving medication. Thus, ZEM Life, named using the initials of Steve’s son, was born.

The ZEM Life smartwatch can monitor life-threatening situations using several different data points, including pulse and oxygen levels. When an emergency is detected, the watch triggers an alarm to alert the user. If they do not dismiss the alarm, the watch injects the loaded medication and sends a GPS signal of the user’s location to authorities.
